Opus 40
6.5 acre environmental sculpture
Over a bluestone quarry, created by sculptor and quarryman Harvey Fite.
50 Fite Rd
Saugerties, NY 12477
Founded in 1978, Opus 40 is an earthwork sculpture park and museum located in Saugerties (Ulster County), New York. We bring natural and creative resources to the public through a park, museum, performance space and educational facility. Each year we offer a range of events and programs on out remarkable site.
Visitors can walk through, around, and over our 6½-acre sculpture, from the deepest recesses of its subterranean pathways (16 feet below ground) and up to the nine-ton monolith that is the epicenter and summit of the sculpture (three stories above ground).
Opus 40 is an awe-inspiring total artistic environment.
As guests walk on the sculpture, its walls and terraces curling around trees and embracing quarry springs, they also see the remarkable frame of Overlook Mountain — a deliberately central aspect of the Opus 40 experience.
Also, on our site is the Quarrying Museum, many hiking trails, the Fite Gallery and a small gift shop with books and local products.
Also check out 2019 Events Schedule: a variety of concerts, Art Exhibits, Lectures, etc.
There are so many reasons to visit!
